North Plains Integration with Aspera Will Speed Up Customers’ Downloads of Large Media Files

Digital Asset Management Leader to Integrate Aspera’s High-Speed File Transfer Software with its TeleScope Platform

LAS VEGAS, NV – April 16, 2008 North Plains Systems, Inc., the leading provider of video and digital asset management (VAM and DAM) software and solutions, and Aspera , the market leader for high-speed data transfer technologies, today announced a partnership to facilitate the high-speed, secure download of large media assets. The solution will be showcased at North Plains’ booth (SU14315) and Aspera’s booth (SU15509) this week at the NAB Show, April 14-17 in Las Vegas, NV.

TeleScope ™, the industry’s most advanced video and digital asset management system, is designed to meet the diverse range of video and digital asset management needs from small to midsize businesses and design studios to the most demanding, workflow-intensive environments of global enterprises. All stages of the TeleScope digital asset management workflow – creation, production, delivery, and consumption – involve network transfer of file-based media assets, usually of significant size, and often at global distances.

Through the integration of Aspera’s next-generation high-speed file transfer software, fasp ™, with the TeleScope platform, customers who are looking for greater speed, reliability, and security of file transfers can take advantage of the solutions’ enhanced capabilities for the high-speed transfer of large media files such as video.

The combined solution will facilitate the transfer of large media files at speeds that dramatically surpass traditional HTTP transfer methods over long distance, difficult, and high bandwidth networks. Once the end user is ready to download the digital media file, the Aspera Connect plug-in, integrated seamlessly with North Plains’ TeleScope web interface, enables the end-user to download media assets with greater speed and reliability, and with predictable transfer time. The integration also supports drag-and-drop of files or directories for upload, and clickable links for single- and multi-item downloads. Users can also manage transfers from outside the browser process, including pausing, resuming, and controlling transfer rates on the fly.

“Aspera’s seamless integration to TeleScope has provided our customers with tremendous efficiency gains when downloading large media files, especially video, from TeleScope,” said Hassan Kotob, President and CEO for North Plains. “In cases where users have downloaded files of multiple gigabytes in size, file transfer speeds have occurred in a fraction of the time, with the most notable improvements observed as the distance between the source server and the download location increased.”

"The technology partnership with TeleScope was inspired by a joint motion picture studio customer who relies on North Plains’ TeleScope and Aspera’s technology for their digital asset management," said Michelle Munson, Aspera President and Co-Founder. "We are proud to become an integral part of TeleScope and effectively power the system's next-generation file transfer capabilities. The integration of faspTM technology into North Plains' leading digital asset management solution solves the common problem of managing large digital assets at global distances, and is poised to enable global digital operations for companies across many industries."
