Multi-Channel Publishing

Two core reason companies implement a digital asset management solution are 1) reduce duplicate effort by finding and reusing valuable assets, and 2) get messages to market faster by automating the digital media workflows and supply chains.

Digital media management, video management, partner collaboration, and creative collaboration are all central to both these goals.

This is the baseline digital asset management solution that all companies small and large need.

For those companies dealing with higher volumes, more channels, and global or multi-region campaigns, their DAM also needs to handle multi-channel publishing and distribution.

Multi-channel publishing has the following requirements:

1. Automatic Rendition Handling

Can the system automate the creation and storage of multiple renditions of an asset? Requirements might include high-resolution for print, optimized web-friendly resolutions for the website, pdf-friendly resolutions for downloadable collateral, high-resolution video for burning to DVD, multiple video resolutions for social media channels, and high-resolution low-bandwidth proxies for post production partners.

2. Compound Assets

Can you assemble and manage all the needed assets and specific renditions to create the final piece of collateral as a single compound asset? Can your DAM understand Adobe Indesign documents and create a master asset and related assets for all of the images? Can those related image assets be repurposed into web content? Social Media content? When looking at an image in a piece of social media content, can you always find the original high-resolution master image?

3. Variation Management

Can you create regional variations of core content and maintain links back to the original content? Can this process be automated to scale and support dozens of regional marketing offices?

4. Change Management

When content is changed, can all the appropriate renditions be updated? Can all owners of derived multi-channel content be notified and seamlessly update their content with the new information?

It goes without saying that partner collaboration and creative workflow are essential to the above multi-channel publishing activities. A DAM that is built with compound assets and multi-channel publishing and distribution at its core will easily support multiple-channels in its creative workflow and partner collaboration. Those that don’t will require lots of awkward hacking that will produce an inelegant, hard to use, and hard to update solution.

A DAM built for single-channel fulfilment of finished assets will not be able to support the marketing automation that enables global marketing, simulatenous global multi-channel campaigns, and quick, agile updates to content across all marketing channels and campaigns.

To achieve truly impressive time-to-market and cost-savings in content creation, companies need to invest in a system that handle the digital assets involved in multi-channel content, and the publishing processes to create, modify, approve, change, and republish them.
