This is due to a lack of control and the potential for them to lower efficiency, making hybrid DAM solutions more appealing.
The need for a centralized DAM system grows due to the amount of assets being rapidly produced, as well as the increased focus on backoffice integration systems. It is all about the automation this year.

#2: Smartphones and Tablets and Apps…Oh My!
Over the past few years, there has been a significant generational shift in the workforce from Generation X and Y to Generation Z, better known as Millennials. With this shift comes an increasing demand for accessibility through alternative devices, such as mobile phones and tablets. There’s been a lot of noise in the DAM industry about this topic, but what does it mean for companies?
The most common benefit of mobile use in DAM is the ability to browse, search, and share information quickly from the convenience of your handheld device. With the increasing popularity of user-generated content, this convenience-factor is a necessity.
With the growing popularity of mobile use, responsive design is becoming a standard across websites, apps, and the like. Users expect to be able to access what they need while on the go from a mobile just as easily as they would from their desktop.

#3: Metadata: Yep, it’s that important.
Even though metadata isn’t the most exciting part of having a DAM, it’s a necessary tool that allows users to get the most out of their DAM. People are re-evaluating what you can do with metadata and how it can improve your DAM’s search capabilities. When effectively implemented and managed, proper use of metadata can save a significant amount of time that can be used in more productive ways, such as creating additional assets.
More and more, employees are understanding that metadata is about more than just filling in the necessary information fields. There’s a systematic approach that – when properly implemented – makes workflow systems more efficient, recognizes relationships between data, and classifies assets more effectively.

People with existing DAM systems typically come to a point where they’ve peaked and feel that their current system can’t keep up with what they need. When looking at the statistics, we discovered that over 60% of companies had more than 1 system, 40% had more than 3, and some had as many as 8 different systems in place to manage their assets.
Replacing or migrating to a new DAM can be more complicated than re-evaluating your current processes to determine whether they are right for what you’re trying to accomplish within your organization. Consolidating your DAM systems and clearing your repository of nonessential assets to add scalability to your DAM could be more beneficial than purchasing a second DAM.

#5: Your Brand in 160 Characters
During the last year, the role of social media has continued to influence change in the DAM industry. Many organizations come to DAM suppliers seeking a direct integration method for their social channels that help them navigate the numerous challenges faced when dealing with user-generated content and version control. To resolve this issue, organizations have started integrating brand guidelines and approval processes into their DAM workflow that extend the DAM’s usage from being just a central repository to holding pieces of content until they are ready to be pushed across social media channels.
Social media is constantly moving, and the need for immediate response can be overwhelming. Just one wrong post has the potential to cause a ton of damage to a company’s image, not to mention the additional risks related to legal compliance. Make sure to take the necessary precautions to protect what matters most: your brand.
